East London’s most famous market is to get a taste of the Far East when a Japanese teahouse goes up next week.

Old Spitalfields Market is hoping the exotic venue will attract book lovers as it coincides with the release of author David Mitchell’s new novel The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet.

Starting on Tuesday and open until Friday (March 18), the teahouse-inspired reading room will draw on the opulence of 18th Century Japan.

The aim is to get a thousand people to review the book.

The author, who has been twice nominated for the Man-Booker prize, will meet fans at the teahouse at Mulberry Gate on Wednesday at 1pm.
