Children marked the end of the London Games with bilingual storyteller Shamim Azad during a workshop at the world’s largest surviving tidal mill in Bromley-by-Bow.
The poet and writer helped children create garlands, brooches and fridge magnets from marigolds, the official flower of the Games, during the workshop by the House Mill on Three Mills Island last Sunday.
Ms Azad who has published books, including novels and collections of short stories, in both English and Bangla, also read her tales to the children. Her work ranges from Bangladeshi to European folktales.
She combines education and entertainment in her work, and the children got to take home their creations.
