Award for scheme that successfully tackles underage drinking in Mile End

A scheme in Mile End which tackles underage drinking has won an award after drunken anti-social behaviour plummeted by 62 per cent.
The Mile End Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) scooped the national CAP award in the innovation category this week.
The initiative was recognised for its successful work which includes teaming up with schools and youth centres to increase alcohol awareness and organising activities to keep young people off the street.
Vincent Fajilagmago, licensing officer Tower Hamlets Council, picked up the award from Derek Lewis, national CAP chair.
Mr Lewis said: “CAPs offer an evidence-based and locally tailored response to underage alcohol problems.

“One of the biggest challenges for Mile End CAP was providing young people in the area with an alternative to hanging about on the streets and engaging in anti-social behaviour.”
“Alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour by young people has dropped by 62pc and residents are full of praise.”
