A TASTE of the country came to the East End as grown fruit and vegetables, cakes, flowers and home made jams were displayed and judged at the Spitalfields Show and Green Fair at the weekend.
The fair, held in Allen Gardens and neighbouring Spitalfields City Farm in Buxton Street, encouraged East Enders to ‘go green’ by growing their own fruits and vegetables.
The Spitalfields Show included entries in more than 100 classes including flower arrangements, fruit, vegetables, handicraft, and even a special children’s section.
Anyone was encouraged to enter their fruits or vegetables whether they were growing out of a garden, window box, balcony or backyard. First prize winners received red roses and runners up received a certificate.
There were all kinds of stalls along the Green Market that encouraged healthy living, gave nutritional advice and information about recycling and how to stay green by reducing emissions and conserving energy.
