A TOP City investment bank picked up the Lord Mayor of London's 'Dragon' award last night for its 'community commitment' in London's deprived East End.

Ian Luder awarded the 'Heart of the City' title to Investec for its 'social investment' programme with schoolkids at Bethnal Green's Morpeth Secondary.

The company's staff who work with five charities, focusing on education and the environment, have completed 1,100 hours volunteering so far. Even during the current economic times the bank increased its 'social investment' budget.

'Volunteer of the Year' went to Rosie Spooner, from St George's University. Other Dragon awards last night went to Lovell Partnership and British Airways for education, Base Creative for economic regeneration and Broadgate Estates for social inclusion.
