Staff from a top firm of accountants have completed a gruelling 2,000-mile biking trek from Athens to their offices at Canary Wharf in just two weeks—raising funds for east London's Barnardo's children's charity.

The KPMG employees have raised £80,000 this month alone with the sponsored bike ride and an indoor rowing marathon for Barnardo’s and for Penny Brohn Cancer Care.

A grateful Barnardo’s fundraising boss Allan McLaren said: “We were so impressed by the daunting bike journey, cycling in sweltering heat in difficult conditions—but always with a smile and a joke.”

Their two-year charity partnership with the accountancy firm has raised £1m so far.

Staff in another event earlier this month battled it out to see who was the fastest to cover 100km on indoor rowing machines at the Canary Wharf offices, with teams taking it in turns to row at high speed throughout the day. Fastest team did it in 6hrs 17mins.
