The former Gillingham and Forest Green Rovers manager provided an honest assessment of Saturday’s National League match

Barrow boss Ady Pennock pulled no punches after his team lost 4-1 to Leyton Orient on Saturday to slip into the National League bottom four.

The Bluebirds took the lead at Brisbane Road after forward Luke James headed home a Dan Jones cross in the sixth minute.

Orient equalised 22 minutes later though, when a corner from Jobi McAnuff was flicked on by Macauley Bonne and Jones inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

It remained 1-1 for most of the game, but the O’s finished with a flourish as Bonne hit a late double to hand Justin Edinburgh’s team the victory.

Pennock said: “It was a very good start from us, but goals change games and again they were very poor goals for us to concede.

“I thought Leyton Orient thoroughly deserved it in the end, they were on top of us, but we have to move on.”

A score of 4-1 did appear to flatter Edinburgh’s side, but their clinical edge in front of goal was impressive.

Orient also showed plenty of character to come from a goal down to claim the three points after James’ early goal.

After equalising through a Jones own-goal, O’s had to wait until the 72nd minute to take the lead.

Sam Ling’s long throw was headed on by George Elokobi and substitute Josh Koroma bundled the ball in at the back post with his shoulder.

Things didn’t improve for the visitors either, as with 77 on the clock Jones saw red for a foul on James Brophy and the hosts made the most of their numerical advantage.

On the stroke of full time Bonne played Brophy through and he set up the forward for a simple tap-in before a Joe Widdowson cross was headed home by Bonne to complete the scoring at Brisbane Road.

The result saw Orient move back up to 12th in the table, but Barrow slipped into the relegation zone ahead of their home game with Eastleigh tonight.

Pennock added: “I don’t know why the referee sent Dan (Jones) off and that changed the game.

“We were 2-1 down and then down to 10-men, but I’ve got to say we have conceded some poor goals in recent weeks and we have to look at ourselves and not point fingers at the referee or the opposition.

“We have to look at ourselves and get out of the mess we find ourselves in.”
