French defender urges Brisbane Road outfit to respond at Notts County this weekend

Leyton Orient captain Mathieu Baudry insists the squad will respond to last Saturday’s heavy defeat to Northampton Town when they visit Notts County this weekend.

The French defender and his team mates matched the Cobblers during the first 45 at Brisbane Road and it was goalless at the break.

Chris Wilder’s League Two leaders quickly took control of proceedings after the interval, though, and ran out 4-0 winners.

Baudry admitted it hurt his pride and called on O’s to bounce back at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Orient won the previous encounter with the Magpies 3-1 and will seek to complete a double this weekend.

He said: “We need to respond now. If you play football and you don’t get hurt after getting beat 4-0 then you need to change sport.

“It hurts your pride and you need to react. We are going to do that. We will keep working for Saturday’s game.

“I thought Notts County were a good team in the first match, I think they have similar players. They are quite a competitive side and we need to be ready for that.”

Even though the loss to Northampton was disappointing, Orient’s results on the road under new player-manager Kevin Nolan have been encouraging.

They defeated Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 in his first match in charge and beat Portsmouth most recently at Fratton Park with Jobi McAnuff scoring the only goal of the game.

Baudry believes the extra competition for places is pushing all the O’s squad to work that little bit harder.

“I think everyone has been great even the people that haven’t been involved as much as they wanted,” said the 27-year-old.

“You can see the training has stepped up a bit because you need to perform. The competition is good. We have 15 games to go and we need everyone.”
