Former BBC Countryfile TV presenter Julia Bradbury is urging people to cross Tower Bridge in her campaign to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
Julia is patron of the Bowel Cancer UK charity which is organising a sponsored ‘walk together’ event on September 15.
“Nearly 42,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK,” she points out. “They include my mum who thankfully is now recovered.
“Physical activity plays an important part in stacking the odds against a diagnosis so I fully support the ‘walk together’ to bring everyone affected by the disease together from all ‘walks’ of life.”
The five-mile route from Kings Stairs Gardens in Rotherhithe starting 11am goes over Tower Bridge, passes the Tower of London, through St Katharine Docks then looping back past The Monument, St Paul’s Cathedral, crossing the Millennium footbridge and back over Jubilee footbridge at Charring Cross to arrive at Victoria Embankment Gardens by 2pm.
Volunteers register for £10 (£5 children) and pledge to raise a minimum of £60 for the charity.
