A HIGH ranking spokesman for the ruling Labour group on Tower Hamlets council in East London is predicting the return of beleaguered chief executive Martin Smith at the Town Hall tomorrow (Wednesday). Kazim Zaidi maintains that Mr Smith is due back from holiday—despite the East London Advertiser being told by his union that his employment finishes tomorrow.
A HIGH ranking spokesman for the ruling Labour group on Tower Hamlets council in East London is predicting the return of beleaguered chief executive Martin Smith at the Town Hall tomorrow (Wednesday).
Political advisor Kazim Zaidi maintains that Mr Smith is due back from holiday tomorrow—despite the East London Advertiser being told by his union that his employment will finish tomorrow.
The paper was told two week ago by the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives that a financial settlement has been reached in principle’ with the authority. It is believed the deal could cost Tower Hamlets council taxpayers up to �500,000.
Mr Smith called in his union following a meeting with council leader Lutfur Rahman.
His union negotiator Richard Penn and Opposition councillors say Mr Smith was asked to go home’ and consider’ his future.
