Children traded the classroom for curation when they took over the Museum of Childhood for the day.

Youngsters from Globe Primary School, located just minutes away from the Bethnal Green museum, took on a variety of different roles.

Some of the shop assistants made price tags, while the curators looked after objects and meet and greeters kept track of visitor numbers.

Some of the young archivists even gave a talk about the museum’s board games.

All the pupils were asked to apply for their preferred roles and complete a day’s training ahead of the takeover.

It was the first time in the museum’s 145-year history it has held such an event and was designed to find out how children would like to see it improve.

Suggestions included gold front doors, the return of Second World War toys and sandwiches given to visitors when they arrive.
