A traditional East End boozer has been sold to a company which runs dozens of pubs across London.

The Old George, in Bethnal Green Road, was sold for around £85,000 to Antic, which runs a total of 39 pubs across the capital.

The sale follows the decision of previous owners Sue and Keith Allen’s decision to retire from the pub trade.

The 18th century pub will now undergo refurbishments ahead of a re-opening later this year. Early records of the pub can be found in accounts of renowned East End brewers Messrs Truman Hanbury and Buxton.

Its sale was brokered by business property sales company Christie and Co.
