AN 11-year-old girl who fell down the stairwell of a Bethnal Green school has died from her injuries.

Year 7 pupil Elle Hiscott tragically died Thursday afternoon after falling down the stairs at Raine’s Foundation School in Approach Road on Wednesday October 13.

It is understood she fell over the bannister and onto her head.

She was treated at the scene by doctors and paramedics and taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Elle was later transferred to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in central London, where she died Thursday afternoon.

A Facebook tribute site – R.IP Ellie Hiscott Join If You Miss Her – has since sprung up with almost 90 members.

Headteacher Gordon Clubb released the statement: “We received the sad news that Elle Hiscott of Year 7 has passed away.

“Elle was a happy, bubbly young girl who enjoyed life to the full. We are all devastated by her loss and our deepest sympathy goes out to her parents and extended family.

“They are, of course, in our thoughts and prayers.

“Thank-you to everyone who has shown concern and offered support over the last

week. However, the students and staff of the school are now in mourning and we ask

that we be allowed to grieve in private.”

Tower Hamlets Council said a Health and Safety Executive investigation in the incident found the school was not to blame.

A council spokesman said: “As with any incident which results in a serious injury the Health Safety Executive were involved and immediately carried out a site visit. They were satisfied that there was no case to answer.

“We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family and our thoughts and sympathies are with them at this most difficult time.

“Whilst we are not able to give out any more information at this stage, we will continue to work closely with the family and school to provide all possible support.”
