Hundreds of revellers at yesterday’s Spitalfields street party for the Royal Jubilee basked in the sun for their Big Lunch.

They got their Royal Jubilee celebrations in early before today’s rain would have put the dampener on it.

The trestle tables were set up along Wilkes Street and Princelet Street by the Spitalfields Society who invited Tower Hamlets First Citizen Rajib Ahmed as their guest of honour.

But residents from the neighbourhood joining in included some of London’s famous in their own right, like artist Tracy Emin and TV historian Dan Cruickshank, who were cheek by jowl with local dignitaries such as the Rector and the Clerk of Spitalfields’ famous Christ Church. The food was made by local resident and chef Angela Hartnett.
