A new cycling app designed to show users theft hotspots throughout London will be launched in Tower Hamlets tomorrow.
The Citybiker app was created by Enoch Adolfo after his £350 bike was stolen from outside of a police station where he locked it up.
The 23-year-old musician, from Finsbury Park, discovered shortly afterwards that the area was a hotspot for crime and realised Londoners needed a tool to locate safe places to lock up their bikes.
“I thought my bike would be fine outside a police station, but had I locked it up 100 yards down the road, statistically it would’ve been much safer,” said Enoch.
“Cyclists know that there is information out there on traffic blackspots, but we don’t necessarily know where the theft hot spots are.”
Enoch’s Citybiker app became available on iOS on September 19 an has already attracted 80 dedicated users.
“I’m delighted with how the app has been received so far. The next stage for me is to look into GPS tracking and more in depth updates on crime hotspots,” said Enoch.
“Eventually I’d like to take it to other cities in the UK and across Europe.”
Tomorrow’s official launch event for the Citybiker app will be held at Maker Wharf, in Warner Place, Bethnal Green, from 6pm.
