Crystal Palace youngster discusses Southend, his ‘tricks and flicks’ plus doing well at Brisbane Road

Jerome Binnom-Williams is backing his Leyton Orient team-mates to get back to winning ways at home when Morecambe visit in League Two this weekend.

The young defender, on loan from Premier League Crystal Palace, is hoping Kevin Nolan’s men can make it back-to-back victories in the division.

A 1-0 win at high-flying Oxford United on Saturday resulted in the east Londoners moving back up to seventh in the table, although Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley last night saw them drop to eighth again.

But though Binnom-Williams and his team-mates have impressed on the road, they have struggled at Brisbane Road.

Luton Town beat them 1-0 two weeks ago and the 21-year-old is hoping to impress the home fans this weekend.

“Morecambe will be tough, every match in this league is, but we will just take it as it comes and hopefully we get the three points,” said Binnom-Williams.

“The home form hasn’t really been that good, since I’ve come in we got one win against Crawley and a loss to Luton.

“Hopefully we can bring the performance we put in against Oxford back to Brisbane Road and show our fans that we can do it at home as well as away.”

Orient supporters have witnessed Binnom-Williams grow in confidence lately and pull out some skills in recent weeks.

The left-back smiled when asked about his ability on the ball and admitted he will be focusing on his main job.

“I’ve got the tricks and flicks now and then, not all the time, but when it does come off it looks alright,” laughed Binnom-Williams. “I’m just going to stick to defending and putting it in the channels.”

He spent most of last season on loan at Southend United, who eventually earned promotion via the play-offs.

Orient are aiming to do the same thing again this year and Binnom-Williams hopes he can bring them some luck.

The Blues won seven of their last eighth matches in League Two and the O’s would love to do something similar.

“I was with Southend last season, I played a few games, but didn’t get to play at Wembley,” added the Palace youngster.

“That is how football goes and you don’t always get picked and you can’t play every game. It was really good to get promoted with them, though, and I enjoyed it and got a lot of matches there.

“Southend got on a good run near the end of the season last year so hopefully it is vice versa here, I’ve come to Orient and want to do well.

“Hopefully I can do that and encourage other boys around me to do well and we can get on a big run.”
