THE Bishop of London is meeting children in the East End this-morning (Wed) to see a vegetable garden they’ve created in their school playground.
The Rt Rev Richard Chartres is also using his visit to see a sculpture made from discarded weapons left over from civil strife in Africa that’s now on show at the parish church next door to the school.
Dr Chartres is arriving at Old Ford Primary near Victoria Park at 10.30am to launch the 2010 Diocese of London Lent Appeal.
He is addressing the youngsters about this year’s theme of transformation’ helping youngsters in derprived Third World states.
The children will also take the Bishop on a tour to show him the area of their playground they’ve proudly transformed into a vegetable garden.
The appeal aims to raise �70,000 to support the Angola-Mozambique Association’s fund supporting projects to transform children’s lives in the two developing nations.
The Bishop is also paying a visit to the church of St Paul & St Mark’s nearby which is currently hosting a sculpture called Music Men made up of weapons traded in by people in Mozambique for farming equipment, part of the Church’s global swords into ploughshares’ campaign.
