THERE'S some good news for motorists crossing the river - as Transport for London cancels next month's weekend engineering work.

A Transport for London spokesman said: "Work on the northbound Blackwall Tunnel refurbishment project is progressing very well. In the light of this, TfL now no longer requires the weekend closure that was scheduled to occur on 10 to 13 September."

There will be just one more planned weekend closure of the tunnel this year from October 8 to 11 which has been planned to avoid any major local events in the surrounding boroughs and closures on the Jubilee line.
