This is all that remains of a large area of The City between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge after the London Blitz.
This picture taken in 1942 from the roof of St Paul’s, looking south towards the Thames, is one of 60 black-and-white images taken since the 1890s now on public exhibition at Tower Bridge until September.
