Wayne Stockdale died after being shot in Rounton Road

The body of an innocent cyclist gunned down in the street in London’s East End in what detectives believe was ‘mistaken identity’ has been released for burial after nearly three months.

Investigations are continuing into 42-year-old Wayne Stockdale’s death four days after he was shot in Devans Road in Bromley-by-Bow on May 6 while cycling to meet a friend—less than 30 seconds away.

The father-of-three was just a mile from his home in Abbott’s Road, Poplar.

His body was released from Poplar Mortuary on Friday. The funeral takes place on August 4, with a service at 12.30pm at All Saint’s Church.

Wayne was 40 when he gave up work two years ago to look after his partner Anne Tracey full-time when she was diagnosed with cancer.

Anne, a 42-year-old grandmother, had just been given the ‘all clear’ after her recovery the day before Wayne was shot.

Two men were seen firing at another man after Wayne was shot, then running back and getting into a car. They ran back past the spot where Wayne was lying fatally wounded on the ground, close to takeaways and shops in Devons Road, before making their getaway in Knapp Road.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call the incident room on 020-8733 4212, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
