French defender calls on supporters to get behind the team and believes Orient needed to relax more at the weekend

Leyton Orient captain Mathieu Baudry has called on fans to stick with the team this season following Saturday’s disappointing defeat to Accrington Stanley in League Two.

Josh Windass scored the only goal of the game at Brisbane Road in the 25th minute and it meant Ian Hendon’s side were booed off at half time and at full time too.

The O’s weren’t at their best and the frustration of the home supporters boiled over on a number of occasions.

But their French defender doesn’t believe booing is helpful and called on the Orient fans to get behind the side.

Baudry said: “We had a few boos and I am not going to say we are enjoying it. I think it is just a minority of the supporters that boo and it is the ones that have never played football.

“If they want to come back and have a season like we had last year and want somebody like Fabio Liverani to come back they can carry on booing.

“But if they want to stick with us and stick with players that are hungry – look we are not perfect, we haven’t got a perfect team.

“We do mistakes, but you can’t fault the commitment of everyone. If people want to boo they can, but we are going to stick together and I am going to stick with the boys because we have a good bunch.”

Orient’s captain believes they played with too much fear against Stanley and that contributed towards the 1-0 loss.

He admitted the O’s needed to relax more, which is something they normally do even if they are trailing, but wasn’t replicated on Saturday at Brisbane Road.

“I wouldn’t say we were on the edge, but with the start we had the expectation has gone through the roof and as soon as you began to have a few results not go your way people question yourselves and get nervous,” added Baudry.

“When we start well everyone is happy, but when you concede people start to go back in their shell and make wrong decisions and then the other team gets confidence.

“We just need to relax and show more composure. We can’t be afraid to concede a goal, we need to keep playing and just carry on. The fans need to be with us and push us when we go behind because that is when we need them the most.”
