Tower Hamlets cyclists can get on their bikes, challenge friends and family to cover the most miles and win prizes into the bargain as part of a new scheme launched by the Mayor of London.

Boris Johnson is calling on bikers to take part in his Cycle Challenge by forming teams and then trying to cover as much distance as they can in the capital between June 18 and July 15.

Any journeys, such as your daily cycle to work, can count and teams scoring the most points will win bike prizes worth up to 750 if you have more than a hundred people in your team.

Lower amounts will be awarded to smaller teams.

The Mayor is also encouraging people to use his Cycle Hire scheme, which allows riders to pick up bikes from docking points across the borough including in Brick Lane, Commercial Road and Wapping High Street.

Mr Johnson said: “Bragging rights are at stake for teams of cyclists all over the capital but the challenge is also a great way for new cyclists to join forces and give it a go.”
