Two sisters living in London’s East End have been given their British citizenships today, along with 30 other former immigrants.

Nasria and Boshra Begum took part in London’s seventh Citizens’ ceremony held by London Mayor Boris Johnson at City Hall.

The new UK citizens swore allegiance to “Queen and country” in front of proud friends and family in the assembly chamber at City Hall—in the week Elizabeth II becomes Britain’s longest-ever reigning monarch.

“Our diverse communities make a massive contribution to our city’s economic and cultural success,” Boris said. “I urge all our new citizens to get involved and take advantage of everything London has to offer, contribute to its future success, and help ensure it remains the best ‘big city’ in the world.”

The new citizens, from all over the globe including eastern Europe and Asia, were presented with certificates, a book about the London 2012 Olympics and scrolls of the Magna Carta celebrating its 800th anniversary.

Singer-songwriter Lucy Walker, who took part in the Mayor’s busking competition, performed her song We Know the Score.

Now, at least, the new citizens know the score after their oath of allegiance and Boris’s message of integration.
