YOUNGSTERS have been getting to grips with bows and arrows as archery makes a hit’ with the kids in London’s East End.

They have taken part in sports like archery at Mile End Park stadium, like 13-year-old Tom Moody (pictured), aiming for a bull’s eye in a sport which most youngsters wouldn’t normally get a chance at.

It’s all part of Tower Hamlets council’s summer sports programme with free coaching from professionals. Sessions have included athletics, swimming, judo, basketball and skating as well as archery.

One 12-year-old, Hafsa Djelloul, appropriately from Bow, took to the bow and arrow and has been honing her archery skills during the sessions. She won the archery bronze medal representing Tower Hamlets at this year’s London Youth Games.

The sports courses have been so popular that the council is now planning more sessions at Mile End in the coming months.
