MAD bikers astonished students at Bow Boys School with a jaw-dropping mountain bike stunt show, as part of a bike week organised by sustainable transport charity, Sustrans last week.

Team MAD, which has performed all over the world, demonstrated a range of jumps, hops and balancing skills on specially adapted mountain bikes at the school in Fairfield Road, Bow on Wednesday.

Sustrans' Bike It officer for Tower Hamlets James Scott organised the bike filled fun week to encourage more of the boys to cycle to school.

Pupils also learnt bike maintenance and cycle skills over the week and wrote letters to the Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Mr Scott said: "Boris Johnson wants this year to be the year of the cyclist in London, so the students at Bow Boys are writing letters to outline what needs to be done to encourage children to get on their bikes.

"Team MAD's dedication and enthusiasm towards cycling means that they are excellent role models for the pupils.

"I hope that the bike week will really work towards encouraging more of the boys to get to school under their own steam."

Sustrans works with 13 schools in Tower Hamlets to help children overcome whatever is preventing them from cycling to school.
