A pensioner endured 12 punctures during his 300 mile cycle from London to Lancashire – but completed the ride to raise £1,000 for charity.
Joe Ross, 66, pedalled his way from the East End to Lancashire along canal towpaths in memory of his wife Cath, to raise money for St Joseph’s Hospice who cared for her before she passed away thee years ago.
After completing the 309 mile ride, Joe, of Hewlett Road, Bow, said: “I passed 181 locks, 1,000 bridges, nine tunnels and 81 small aqueducts and often had to push the bike as I had 12 punctures on the way.
“At times it was like cycling down the nail aisle at B&Q after an earth tremor. But this is something I had been thinking about doing for a long time and nothing was going to stop me completing the ride”.
And Joe – who also cycles from London to Brighton annually - is now planning to complete the ride again, this time in reverse.
