How do you solve a problem like congestion and road safety?

That was the question put to pupils at Central Foundation Girls’ School in a bid to improve the traffic problems around the school.

Harley Grove in Bow, where the school is located, has seen five crashes in the last year, three involving vehicles failing to give way at the Bow Road junction.

Now pupils at the school have come up with proposals that Tower Hamlets Council could implement to address the problem.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said: “It’s a great opportunity for students to get hands-on with a project that will improve their immediate environment as well as teach them vital skills about what it is like to work in the engineering sector where women are still sorely under-represented.”

A consultation on five different options will run until June 29.
