The history and community of Bow will be celebrated in a performance by amateur actors and musicians from the area next month.
The project, called Bow Voices, will bring together contributors from theatre company East End Shed, Bow School and Central Foundation Girls’ School, as well as Sikh temple the Harley Grove Gurdwara.
The free performance will include enactments of former Labour Party leader George Lansbury’s chairmanship of council meetings from a prison cell during the 1921 Poplar Rates Rebellion, as well as the arrival of Bangladeshi sailors.
The production has been funded by the Near Neighbours programme, aimed at weaving together diverse communities through collaborations.
It will be held on Saturday, July 6 at Bow Church in Bow Road from 5.30pm. Tickets are available on the door.
