THE City of London's Worshipful Company of Fruiterers is giving away Bramley trees to city farms and inner city charities to mark the Bramley’s 200th anniversary.
They want to encourage youngsters to learn how fruit is grown.
The company’s Master of the Fruiterers, Alan French, is presenting one of the trees today (Tuesday) to Spitalfields City Farm in London’s East End, where children from Tower Hamlets schools have been invited to plant it.
Around 25,000 tonnes of fresh Bramleys are sold each year in Britain, with another 58,000 tonnes used commercially in apple products from pies to sausages and sauces to cider and juice.
