Brazil’s delegation which has been in London studying how the Olympics were organised are making a last stop in the East End today (Weds) before they return home on Friday to prepare for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The Rio authorities sent the delegation to Britain in July to study how East London was coping.

One of the things they have picked up is the Living Wage that all Olympic workers received and the hundreds of job placements—thanks to a campaign by London Citizens community network.

So they are calling at London Citizens’ headquarters in Whitechapel, in the heart of Olympics ‘host’ borough Tower Hamlets, but won’t arrive empty-handed.

“They’re donating all their office equipment to our member-organisations,” Citizens’ founder Neil Jameson told the Advertiser. “That includes laptops, mobile phones, furniture and at least 20 TVs which we’ll distribute among our 250 voluntary and community groups.

“The Brazilians picked us because we reach civic society—there’s no other network like ours.”

The delegation which set up its temporary base at Somerset House in The Strand returns home with a promise to twin schools in London with schools in Rio as a legacy to both London 2012 and Rio 2016.
