THE Old Truman Brewery has lost out in its bid to screen the rest of the World Cup matches on the big screen after failing to win over the Town Hall.

The Brewery wanted to show the games on big screens in the Z Block in Brick Lane and had to wait until half-way through the tournament before licensing officials were able to schedule in a meeting to discuss the application.

But Tower Hamlets council's Licensing Sub Committee rejected the application on Thursday.

More than 20 people living near the Brewery objected to the plans saying the large number of people watching the matches on the big screens could cause excess noise and antisocial behaviour.
