NOVICE athlete Johanna Schmidt takes part in Saturday’s London Triathlon to raise funds for leukaemia research in memory of her dad who died when she was just nine.

She’s one of the bunch of this year’s Banana Army’ Leukaemia Research triathlon team who loves cycling and swimming and thinks she’ll “get through the running part somehow.”

The 28-year-old from East London’s Brick Lane is racing on August 2 as a tribute to her dad.

“My father died almost 20 years ago,” she said.

“We still miss him a lot. I was very close to him and think about him often and wonder how life would be if he were still with us.”

Johanna is looking for sponsors online here to help her reach her £250 target in the August 2 triathlon, which involves a 400m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run.
