French defender discusses FA Cup, Accrington Stanley defeat and putting things right
Leyton Orient captain Mathieu Baudry is determined to right the wrongs of last weekend when they entertain Staines Town in the first round of the FA Cup tomorrow (Saturday).
The French defender and his team mates were booed off at Brisbane Road following a 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley in League Two.
But Ian Hendon’s men have a chance to respond when they welcome non-league opposition to east London.
Although the league remains the priority this year, everybody at the club would like a good run in the historic competition.
Baudry said: “It is nice for us to be back at home next week. We need to work, but let’s be honest the priority is the league.
“We can use Saturday as a practise game in a way to get things right after the Accrington Stanley match so it is important in this way.
“I have never had a great run in the FA Cup so I think it would be nice to do well, but what is important for the club is the league.
“But we are competitors and especially when you lose a game it is important to bounce back and get a win.”
Hendon is expected to make some changes to the side that started against Accrington on Saturday, but Baudry should start and captain the team.
The 27-year-old believes the O’s need to ensure they take their chances this weekend, but conceded they have been conceding sloppy goals as well.
Staines have a number of players, including 19-goal hitman Pat Cox, who could cause Orient problems at Brisbane Road so the back four will have on their toes.
“Every game is important, we have a small squad so we will see what the manager does with the team, but it is a match we want to win,” added Baudry.
“Starting strongly but not taking our chances sums up the last month where we have chances to go into the lead and after we concede a sloppy goal.
“It means we are chasing the match, it has been like that a few times and is something we need to fix quickly.”
The O’s have an opportunity to do that on Saturday and if they can deliver a strong performance and reach the second round in the process with a good result, the disappointment of defeat to Accrington will be long in the memory.
