A group of construction workers have backed a campaign to challenge the stigma associated with mental health problems.
The builders took time out of their day to visit a symbolic black dog sculpture erected in Whitechapel’s Altab Ali Park by mental health charity SANE.
Kevin McEnteggart, who is construction manager of AJ Contractors which employs the workers, said: “All of these lads say they know someone who’s been through a bout of depression, friends at university, family, men as well as women; that’s why they’re so keen to support this campaign.
“Honesty is always the best policy,” he added.
Black dog sculptures are often installed by the charity in a bid to raise awareness of mental health problems and promote the message that mental illnesses such as depression should be viewed in the same way as physical health problems are.
