A hydrogen refuelling station for the capital's diesel electric busses is to be built in East London.

The Olympic Delivery Authority has given planning permission for the facility to be built for five new hydrogen buses due to join Transport for London's bus fleet next year.

The busses, which will be run by First, will serve a route between Tower Gateway and Covent Garden.

Work on the refuelling station at the bus operator's bus garage on Temple Mills Lane, Leyton is due to begin early next year and completed by the summer.

There are currently 56 hybrid buses on London's roads and TfL expects every new bus entering its fleet to be a hybrid from 2012.
