Ex-AFC Wimbledon left-back found the net in back-to-back games last season so joked he is aiming to hit three in a row for O’s

Leyton Orient defender Callum Kennedy hopes he can chip in more regularly with goals after opening his account for the club last weekend at Doncaster Rovers.

The left-back curled home a stunning free kick to put the O’s ahead at the Keepmoat Stadium, but Rovers responded three times to claim a deserved victory.

Kennedy scored in back-to-back games last season for AFC Wimbledon and joked he’d love to beat that feat with Orient this month.

“It is the best I’ve scored in a match, though not training and it is a nice feeling, especially when you go one up,” said Kennedy.

“You start to think can we hold onto this and make sure it means something because I don’t care if I score and it means nothing at the end of it.

“I only care if I score and we get a point or three so I would have loved for it to be the winner and been telling everybody about it.

“Hopefully it is a sign of things to come, but at the same time we just need to get points on the board.

“Let’s go for three in three now! Obviously if I can chip in where I can I will and we’ve just got to start scoring more goals if I’m honest.”

Andy Edwards was taking charge of O’s for the first time at Doncaster since he was officially appointed manager.

In the end it was another defeat, yet Kennedy felt they did defend strongly for large parts up north.

He added: “We got a little bit lucky at times because one hit the crossbar and another hit the post and Alex Cisak made a few saves.

“That is when you think ‘today might be our day’ and we went one up so we’re all thinking we need to keep hold of this.

“I really believe if we could have got in at half time ahead it would have been a different story so it was very frustrating for us that we couldn’t hold onto the lead.

“We wanted to and that was not a big turning point, but they go into the break in the ascendency and it changed things.

“Second half they got the two penalties, though again in open play against a team that have a lot of possession I felt like we put out a lot of fires and dealt with certain things quite well.”
