FAMILIES flocked to Spitalfields City Farm over the Bank Holiday weekend to see farmyard veteran Cambridge trump his rival Oxford in the annual goat race.

The event, sponsored by Delamere Dairy, attracted around 750 spectators - more than double that of last year.

Cambridge stormed to victory in a record 1 minute 14 seconds during Saturday's race.

A tribute to the world-famous Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race, the contest is in its second year with all proceeds going towards the farm.

Mhairi Weir, farm manager, said: "Both the kids and adults were on tenterhooks. People get very competitive at these sorts of events!"

It was the second win for Cambridge but both animals got a good helping of their favourite treat ivy after the race.
