Climate change campaigners have blocked Tower Bridge as part of a plan to disrupt the capital’s road network.
The group, Extinction Rebellion, swarmed the bridge as well as other traffic hotspots including Vauxhall, Earl’s Court and Elephant and Castle in the first of three days of planned action.
The 100-strong team of environmentalists aim to draw attention to climate change and encourage urgent action from the Governmnet.
Robin Boardman, one of those involved in the protest, said: “Only through daily economic disruption and stopping business as usual, will the Government be made to listen.”
While road users are being disrupted as a result of the protests, the group said that emergency vehicles would be allowed to pass.
