Firefighters and campaigners are planning to march to City Hall in a bid to save Bow Fire Station from closure.

They are calling on Mayor of London Boris Johnson to scrap plans to get rid of the station as the London Fire Brigade seeks savings of £45million.

Campaigners will take their cause to City Hall on June 14, warning the closure would increase response times by two to three minutes in Bow.

The march follows angry exchanges with Conservative London Assembly Members and fire chiefs last month, during which councillors and residents warned lives would be put at risk if the station were to close.

Bow is one of 12 fire stations across the capital earmarked for closure.

The march will begin at Altab Ali Park in Whitechapel High Street at 2pm on Friday June 14.
