An Orthodox rabbi has been appointed to London’s Canary Wharf Chaplaincy in the expanding financial and shopping district.
Rabbi Dr Moshe Freedman is its first dedicated Jewish chaplain who is to work with the Chaplaincy Team one day a week, providing an open door and a listening ear to the working population of all faiths and none, as well as supporting its Jewish community.
“This is a chance to work with different people in a dynamic part of London,” he said. “The aim is to support people, whether helping them through life changes or crises, answering spiritual questions or simply meeting for a friendly chat.”
Rabbi Freedman, from the Northwood Jewish community in Middlesex, joins an expanding chaplaincy team which already includes Anglicans Dr Fiona Stewart-Darling, Evan Jones and Roman Catholic Vladimir Feltzmann.
Dr Stewart-Darling, Bishop’s Chaplain to Docklands, said: “It is crucially important for all the major faiths to work together in a community as diverse as Canary Wharf.”
Rabbi Freedman will be based at One Canada Square, in office space provided to the Chaplaincy by Canary Wharf Group.
