Canary Wharf will host London's first Canstruction event which will see world-leading architects and designers create colossal can sculptures.

A number of international firms, including Arup and PLP Architecture will compete to design the best structures from 40,000 cans of food throughout the Canary Wharf Shopping Malls.

Canstruction has become one of the largest drives for food bank donations, and it is celebrating with an inaugural event in the City to coincide with the 2012 London Festival of Architecture.

After the exhibition, all cans - provided by Waitrose Canary Wharf and AF Blakemore Ltd - will be collected and re-distributed by food charity FareShare across East London.

This will provide 6,000 people with 16 tonnes of canned food.

Sian Astrop, Arts and Events Manager at Canary Wharf Group plc, said: “Canstruction at Canary Wharf will showcase innovative design and competitive spirit, while helping people in need; all things we are passionate about.

“The competition is a first for the Capital and is an outstanding example of the world-class events and public art exhibitions taking place at Canary Wharf in 2012.”

The winner will be chosen by judges on Wednesday, June 27, and will compete in the final International Canstruction competition 2013 in the United States.

The free exhibition is open from Monday, June 25 to Saturday, July 7. For more information, visit
