Members of a youth theatre who were runners up in a national money management competition handed over a £1,000 cheque to help the homeless.

The group were from ACT NOW, a youth theatre run by Whitechapel’s Cardboard Citizens charity which uses theatre and performance to help people out of homelessness.

Their project, called ‘Act on Money’ aimed to address the issues of homelessness and exclusion caused by poverty through a ‘forum theatre’ play which was taken to two young persons’ homeless hostels.

Speaking after the presentation of the cheque at their offices in Greenfield Road on Tuesday, Cardboard Citizens’ CEO Adrian Jackson said: “We are working to address the prolific issue of homelessness in young people and through wonderful initiatives such as this, that not only help young people involved at Cardboard Citizens but also the wider community, we can raise awareness and help vulnerable people in London.”

The money for the presentation was made available by Lloyds Banking Group, which ran the Money for Life challenge.
