THE killer who gunned down his disabled brother’s carer Curtis Smith in a fit of jealousy outside East London’s Club Red nightspot has been jailed today for a minimum 35 years—almost a year to the day of the murder.

Curtis, 36, was shot in the back of the head with a MAC 10 machine gun and left to die in the pavement in a pool of blood in Butcher’s Row in Limehouse, on his first wedding anniversary.

Andrew Denty, 30, was sentenced at the Old Bailey today after being convicted on June 26 of murder, possessing a firearm with intent and conspiracy to pervert justice.

DESPISED

Det Chief Ins John Crossley said after the trial: “Curtis’s employment as carer to Denty’s brother was ultimately to cost him his life.

“Denty despised Curtis because he felt threatened by the respect his brother showed him due to the care he provided.

“This festering hostility came to a head outside the nightclub when Denty shot Curtis in the back of the head.”

A second man, Emmanuel Okot, 25, who admitted hiding the machine gun, was jailed today for three years for conspiracy to pervert justice.

DESPISED

A statement released on behalf of Curtis Smith’s family said: “His life was taken in the most cowardly, violent way by an evil and twisted criminal who showed no remorse.

“We cannot begin to describe the pain we have been through. His death has left a hole in our lives, a wound that will never heal.”

Curtis was employed as a full-time carer working nights to earn extra money to move into his new home with his wife Sarah. He was gunned down on the day of their first wedding anniversary.
