HOMES which don’t have proper insulation on many ageing council estates in London’s deprived East End are to be improved.
Whitehall cash is being ploughed in to help reduce the fuel bills in homes which don’t have proper insulation.
Tower Hamlets Homes which runs council estates in the East End is getting 1.1 million of funding from the Government’s Homes & Communities Agency to improve home insulation.
TARGET
Tower Hamlets Homes chief Gavin Cansfield said: “These funds will allow us to target hard to insulate’ properties, mainly high rise blocks of flats on estates. Improving wall insulation will reduce energy bills and cut CO2 emissions.”
The contractors are taking on trainees and apprentices from Tower Hamlets as part of the programme, with the chance of a permanent job in the contractors in the construction industry.
