TWO Catholic peace campaigners are reported to have been arrested at the Arms Fair at East London’s Excel.

Katrina Alton and Fr Martin Newell, both members of the London Catholic Worker group, are believed to have daubed red paint on a sign advertising the Defence Services Export International fair.

The pair, who live and work with refugees in Hackney, then reportedly raised a banner which read, “Forgive them Father they know not what they do,” then knelt in prayer for 45 minutes before they were arrested for criminal damage.

The four-day arms fair is one of the world’s largest, with 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries displaying weapons and defence equipment.
