Forensic examination of video footage of the moment a man fell from a balcony at a party in Whitechapel has prompted experts to conclude it is likely he was dropped.

Cambridge graduate Mark Blanco, 30, was at a party with rock star Pete Doherty and others in Romford Street when he plunged to his death from a first floor balcony in 2006.

Three police investigations have since been held, and a coroner ruled out suicide after Mr Blanco died in hospital the following day – but his mother is still waiting for answers.

Now, a Newsnight examination of CCTV footage of the incident has led to experts saying he was probably dropped from the balcony by another person.

Forensics specialist John Kennedy told the programme: “There’s no defensive movement whatsoever. It’s literally a drop from outside the rail.

“The only explanation I can think of is that somebody might have dropped him off the balcony. He doesn’t climb over the railing himself. He doesn’t jump. He just suddenly appears outside the railing and falls.”

Pete Doherty’s minder, Johnny ‘Headlock’ Jeannevol, has previously admitted to pushing Mr Blanco before later withdrawing his confession, claiming he had been “off his head” when he made it.

Mark’s mother, Sheila Blanco, continues to search for answers six years after her son’s death. She has lodged a complaint with the Independent Police Complaints Commission over the way the incident has been handled, and is now in the process of submitting the new testimony of the forensic experts to the police.

She said of the findings: “I was shocked, but I have always known in my heart of hearts that Mark would never have gone over voluntarily.

“We always knew that Mark was pushed, but to get someone to say it was marvellous”, she added.
