BRICK Lane was transformed into a traditional English bowling green at the weekend as hipsters tried their hand at lawn bowls under the watchful eye of celebrity judges.

Thousands of hopefuls applied online for a free ticket to the one-off event on Sunday and bowlers were greeted by a multi-coloured club house, psychedelic English garden flowers, typical British picnic food.

Celebrity host, T4’s Rick Edwards, hung out eating ice cream and adjudicated some tricky games while comedian Mat Horne, from the Catherine Tate Show and Gavin and Stacey, entertained the crowd with a DJ set and band of the moment Man Like Me treated participants to a live performance.

Special four-wheeled art commissions by Vauxhall were showcased on the day, including a grass image covered Corsa, which housed the event scoreboard, and a convertible Astra Twintop, which was stocked with free ice creams and lollies.
