League Two club face recently relegated rivals this evening with Dean Cox likely to feature from the off at Victoria Road

Leyton Orient manager Andy Hessenthaler has confirmed Charlie Grainger will start tonight’s friendly with Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 19-year-old, who will turn twenty at the end of this month, was a spectator on Saturday as O’s drew 0-0 with Charlton Athletic.

Alex Cisak started the match before he was replaced in the second period by youngster Sam Sargeant.

Grainger will get his chance this evening, however, but Hessenthaler admitted on Saturday one could be loaned out before the end of August.

He said: “The goalkeeper situation is a bit like the forwards, we have three good keepers and we’ve rotated them around.

“Charlie will start the game at Dagenham and that is the best way we can do it. At the end of it, come Cheltenham, it will be two from three.

“One will be playing, one on the bench and the other one unfortunately may have to get out on loan and we’ll make that decision over the next couple of weeks.”

The forward situation the Orient boss alluded too was the fact that Armand Gnanduillet failed to feature at the weekend off the bench.

With Jay Simpson, Jordan Bowery, Paul McCallum and Ollie Palmer amongst the striker options, the French ace was an unused substitute.

Again Hessenthaler conceded it is a situation that may need addressing before the transfer window shuts.

But with the emergency loan market now scrapped, O’s will probably need all five forwards at some point during the campaign.

“I could only get four on the pitch and Armand couldn’t get on and that is the luxury we have got in terms of forwards,” said Hessenthaler.

“Could it be a problem? Of course. I probably can’t carry five so at some stage I’ll have to look at that because we can’t keep all of these players happy because they are going to want to play.

“It is something we’ll have to address in the coming weeks, but at the moment it is nice to have this amount of strikers around.”

Orient supporters making the trip to Dagenham this evening may see Dean Cox start. Palmer could be set to feature from the off alongside Sammy Moore and Nigel Atangana.

Myles Judd and Josh Koroma showed good promise at the weekend and may start tonight against Daggers at Victoria Road.

Hessenthaler added: “At some stage we’ve got to go with the team we are thinking of playing at Cheltenham, but we’ll probably mixed it around at Dagenham.

“On Saturday there was a lot of players that got 60 minutes and some got longer, we’ll just try to turn that around so the ones that didn’t play much against Charlton will feature at Dagenham.

“They are all competing for places for August 6, but come the Gillingham game we’ll pretty much know where we should be for the Cheltenham match.”

Orient won 3-1 at Victoria Road last season with McCallum, Cox and Lloyd James, now at Exeter City, on target.
