The former Stevenage ace discussed O’s style of play and why they feel more confident on the ball

Leyton Orient host local rivals Barnet on Saturday and midfielder Charlie Lee is confident they can produce more excellent football, writes George Sessions.

The O’s are yet to suffer a National League defeat this season with 10 games played and belief is high.

Barnet experienced a tricky start, but have hit back strongly of late and also go into the contest full of optimism.

It should make for an exciting encounter and Lee feels the O’s are capable of imposing their style on anyone this season.

He said: “If you can get the ball down and play, it makes everything a lot easier.

“There will be some games where teams will be really good at stopping you playing and there are a few of them in this division.

“When that is the case, you have to maybe find a different route, but we will try to put our game on every side we play and it is working so far.”

Barnet are managed by former Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still and he took a number of the Daggers squad to the Hive during the summer.

Mark Cousins, Craig Robson, Dan Sparkes, Charlee Adams and Andre Boucaud all exited Victoria Road to join their old manager at the Bees.

After a slow start, where Barnet were winless after five games and on a three-match losing streak, Still has impressively turned it around.

The north Londoners are right in form now and have won their last five fixtures – including a 1-0 win at home to Maidenhead United last time out (September 8), which saw them move up to eighth.

Orient can expect a difficult test on Saturday, but Lee has backed them to handle everything thrown their way this season.

Justin Edinburgh’s side recently had to produce a dogged display at Chesterfield to come away with a 1-0 victory and it showed they have the stomach for a fight.

Lee added: “We have worked really hard and it has got to the point now where we know whatever 11 is put onto the pitch will do the horrible stuff.

“I know every player will run hard, put in his tackles and do whatever they can and recently we’ve played much better football.

“For me that is the key and it was all about just getting a base put in and the gaffer has done that.

“We have the base now and it is allowing us to be confident on the ball and it will hopefully help us get more good results.”
