The experienced midfielder discussed the unpredictability of the division and the importance of taking things one game at a time

Charlie Lee believes it is important Leyton Orient continue to treat every game the same and don’t underestimate any side in the National League.

The O’s are third in the table after 10 games and one of only two clubs still unbeaten this season.

Justin Edinburgh’s men trail current leaders and surprise package Harrogate Town by two points while last weekend they needed a late leveller to salvage a point at Halifax Town, who are fifth despite struggling for much of the previous campaign.

It sums up the unpredictability of the National League with the likes of Chesterfield and Aldershot Town, much-fancied teams, also currently near the lower echelons.

Lee said: “We are not allowed to bet on football, but if we could I would never bet on this league.

“We go back into the changing room after every game and look at the results and you have to laugh because there is no way you can guess some of them.

“Every game you have to take on its merit. There will teams who overachieve on days and then some who underperform on other occasions, so you just need to be ready to perform as well as you can and hopefully that way you will always pick up points.”

Although the season is only five weeks old, Orient and their league rivals have played a large quantity of games.

The O’s have already had three Tuesday night fixtures and a Bank Holiday Monday clash, but Lee feels it is important to always only focus on the next opponent and not look too far ahead.

He added: “It is a cliché, but you have to take things one game at a time in this league. You really have to.

“When you have two games in a week, it is hard not to look ahead to who you play coming up, but you have to ignore it.

“The gaffer has been brilliant at helping us do that since he come in and we are excited about what can happen this season, but just looking to the next game.”
